I can’t quit you

Posted in Random on August 5, 2014 by zarigar

Last year I went shopping at Target. (Has there even been a more exciting opening sentence?) As you already know, Target decided to give out some credit card information, so a bunch of credit cards had to be reissued. Of course one was mine and I still don’t care, give out my information if you want, it’s still better than shopping at Wal-Mart.

Unfortunately the old card was used for several recurring payments, one of which was WoW. The notices would trickle in as the automatic payment attached to the old card would decline. “Aack, I need internet. Better update my information. Oh, no, I can’t live without Netflix. Let me fix that now.”

Eventually I got the email from Blizzard saying they couldn’t process my subscription and it was closed until I updated my payment information. Truthfully, I paused here and considered all my options.

My playing time had fallen off drastically and this dead blog was proof of it. Maybe those incompetent people at Target were doing me a favor; I could take this as a sign to walk away from the game now.

I was barely logging in, and when I did it was to play on random servers with low level toons. My broken headset was thrown into a random drawer somewhere. I wasn’t even keeping up with friends’ blogs, and I’m sad to say I don’t even know where many of them are playing or if they are even still playing anymore.

The most I was seeing of Azeroth were the random Hearthstone battles I would play before bed. I haven’t logged into Drak in months; I’m kind of scared to see what the state of Shadow Rising is. Pretty much everything was falling into the “Do Not Resub” column.

And yet, the next day, there I was updating my account information. I may not play a lot now but I am still looking forward to the expansion. I put a lot of work into my characters and I don’t want them to go out like this. One day I will be done, done, done with this game and then I will choose to cancel everything.

For now, I am back, and though that doesn’t necessarily mean I will be on more, I know that I’m not ready to give up on WoW yet.

Ni hao!

So, yeah, no post since Halloween? Whoops! Sorry about that, all 4 of my readers!

I’m actually kind of surprised I could still log in. I didn’t know if WordPress would take my blog away or the Chinese gold farmers would find a way to get their hands on it.

I still have my WoW account but I haven’t been playing that much lately. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere and I am very much looking forward to the new expansion. New expansion time is when I evaluate all my toons and play the “who is going to be my main now” game.

I haven’t even really left Blizz. Since they released Hearthstone for ipad I have been playing that a lot. I cheerfully admit I am pretty terrible at it, but it’s still a lot of fun. I even like playing as a rogue, a toon I despise in WoW proper.

Another game that has been taking up a lot of my time (and I am a bit ashamed to admit it) is a Facebook game called Avengers Alliance. It’s based on the Marvel universe and you go around recruiting heroes for your team and all that good stuff. It is exactly as nerdy as it sounds. If anyone is my friend on Facebook and you’ve gotten some kind of spam about it, I apologize. It’s cyber-crack and I can’t stop.

I think it’s about the time for Darkmoon Faire so I may log into the game and see what’s going on. Maybe I’ll even get another post out within 6 months.

Trick or treat

Smell my troll feet.

Long time no post. Going through my feed reader, I can see that others are kind of in the same shape. Usually even when I’m not posting I’m still playing. But this time I haven’t been playing all that much, either.

Brewfest came and went and I barely did anything with it. I looked at the trinkets, went “meh” and didn’t really go for the boss. Either my toons had better and the ones who didn’t I didn’t really feel like chasing for them. Headless Horseman. Meh. I don’t remember what he drops besides the mount, and I got that the year they had the glitch where it dropped like candy.

Sadly, the most I’ve played was for Darkmoon Faire. Why? I don’t know. I’m weird that way, I admit it.

I think the idea of Timeless Isle bored me but I can’t really explain why. My mage — the toon I swore up and down would NEVER get leveled — hit 90 and was in the perfect spot to take advantage of free epics. But the idea of going out there and farming gear was just…. meh.

I still haven’t even done the new LFR. I queued for it once when it came out, and got some random one in progress. I did a few fights but the group fell apart and I didn’t really feel like going back in. So…yeah…meh.

Am I done with WoW? Oh heavens, no. There’s still so much I haven’t done in game that I still want to do. I’m not bored with it, I’m just not very excited for it right now. (That probably made no sense. Meh.)

I’m sure all that will change pretty quickly.

Besides, you know, Darkmoon Faire is coming up soon.

There may be an actual post to come later, but for now enjoy these crudely written attempts at haiku:

2012 in review

Ok, I’ve totally slacked this year. Not as bad as Karos Rekcals. (Has been updated at all lately?)

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 4,500 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 8 years to get that many views.

Click here to see the complete report.

Apparently I need to write more about sunflowers. And Dateline’s To Catch a Predator. (Yay! More hits!)

Grats to Lyssi for being #1 commenter!

Happy new year!

Back at work now and everything is broken so I guess it is time for a post.

I’m not sure about scheduling a raid on New Year’s Day or why I thought it would fine for me to accept. I must have been under the assumption that I was going to have a nice, relaxing New Year’s Eve at home.

I didn’t.

I forgot what hangovers were like.

They suck.

I logged onto my goblin to test myself. Doing one 15-minute run through Gundrak was torture. Changed my raid status to Tentative, went back to bed….and didn’t wake up until 8 pm.

What else did I do on my time off?

Well, a long time ago I made a warrior. Ok, it wasn’t that long ago. But she got my patented “create something new, get all excited about it for a while, blog about it, then promptly stop playing and move onto something else” treatment.

Each month, if I remember and I have time, she gets played long enough to go out to Darkmoon Faire and do her little profession dailies and maybe turn in one of those eggs if someone has extra. And each month I think I should take her out and do some more.

She’s actually had a slightly different path than other belf’s (belves?) that I’ve made in the past. Instead of going out and doing the Tranquillen quests she went out to the Silverpine area and did the Forsaken quests out there. That’s where she kind of stalled out until I picked her up again a few days ago.

A few quests later she was out in Plaguelands doing the Fiona caravan story. And I just kept going. I zoom so many characters through dungeons that I miss so many quests and stories; it’s nice to get to see some of this stuff play out.

And I still don’t feel like I know what I’m doing. But I leveled her up so much that having her be in Outland by the time my vacation was up started to be a realistic goal. She made it with a couple of days to spare. Unfortunately for her, this may be where I start to lose interest again–because I have done the Outland and Northrend and Cata questlines so many times now that it will be hard to muster up the excitement to do them one more time.

A warrior, people, I leveled a friggin’ warrior. That’s how badly I did not want to do dailies.

Trade chat

In between [Anal] jokes and people looking for Sha groups, you can find the occasional humorous gem in trade chat:

Oh course, it got quite crude after that, probably to no one’s surprise. It’s just the way of trade chat.

Random post #200

Posted in MoP, Random with tags , , , on September 19, 2012 by zarigar

WordPress says this is my 200th post so yay me. That saves me having to find a coherent title for my babbling train of thought.

So, scenarios. I’ve now done both Alliance and Horde side and they were ok. I’ve read a lot of uncomplimentary things about them, but not being a lore person, I wasn’t overly bothered by them. They were nice little diversions but nothing that I feel the need to play over and over or something I have to have every eligible toon do.

I liked the tabard reward better than the bomb thing. The white tabard looks nice with my priest who is mogged in mostly white gear. My poor dumpy little dwarf, though, looks like she is wearing a sports bra on the outside of her clothes thanks to the giant WWE belt she has on.

I did notice that there was a guild achievement for doing all the MoP scenarios in a guild group, and there were 7 total, so it looks like we will have at least 6 more of these throughout the next expansion. Hopefully the future ones will please more people.

Am I upset there isn’t more of big world event? Not really. I don’t think I did the save troll islands/retake Gnomer stuff when it was out. I remember being annoyed at all the zombie people infecting everyone. I can see how other people wanted one last big thing to transition from Cata to MoP.

Speaking of transitioning to MoP, I guess I should try to figure out how I’m going to work this. The number of active alts I have now has grown insane throughout Cata. Roughly 12 (?) or so that will want some degree of playtime. The bulk of time, though, will have to go to the two toons scheduled to raid.

Sidenote: for purpose of ease, my main will now and forever be Zarigar. He may not be my raider but he is my main. My raiders are not my mains even if they get to 90 first and have an ilevel 300 points higher than Zari.

I’m not too worried about leveling Khiaren, since she is dps specced and is on a normal server. She can quest and pick flowers and maybe do some dungeons and go AFK when I allot myself 6 minutes to eat dinner.

The one who is going to be more difficult is Jendora. A freaking healer on a freaking PvP server. Oy. This one is going to be interesting.

I see her healing a lot of dungeons. Doing instances all the way to 90, though, already sounds exhausting and tedious. I will have to cobble together an awful boomkin spec and Wrath spam my way through some quests, I think, to retain what’s left of my sanity. I know I will be fresh meat to any alliance players, but sometimes in the beginning of a new expansion the players put world PvP on hold for a while, so maybe that will hold true again this time.

If not, I will be running to my corpse a lot. >.< That there won’t be flying initially available may or may not help, but it will make collecting herbs for Inscription a little more difficult. (I’m that druid who steals your flowers and flies away!)

And now that I’m thinking about healing dungeons I guess it would help if I went and read up on some of them. Just so I know when people die to something avoidable and I have a legitimate reason to rage.

After my raiders are ready, then it will be Zari’s turn. After that, who knows? I just envision a line of alts saying “Is it my turn yet?”

Can I outsource my leveling?

Real life is like WoW

Posted in Random with tags , on August 21, 2012 by zarigar

I have spent the last two weeks being forced to actually go into the office. Waking up early, putting on clothes, the horror! All for the joy of learning the new system we will be using.

During my 8000 hours of commuting free time, I amused myself with how similar learning a new work system is to the upcoming MoP for WoW.

Both will be supposedly easier and better after the initial learning curve has passed. My new work system will allow me to do my job faster while MoP will give me Pokemon battles.

What worries me about both is the ramp-up period. In my old work system and in Cata, it may not be pretty or the most efficient, but I have the experience there to get to what I need and get things done. Even if I can see the benefits of what’s coming up, I still cling a little bit to the old way because that is what I know.

I know from previous expansions that the first couple of days are kind of ugly. A big reason for that is broken add-ons. It would be a nice, fairytale land if I didn’t need to depend on add-ons, but in the ugly real world I do and I miss them until they are updated or I find something comparable.

But, I do know that once you get over that initial hump of frustration and feeling lost, eventually all the new stuff starts to feel like second nature. Even later on I know I will be wondering what I was so worried about and how it was that I ever got things done the old way.

So while it is daunting now to have two big changes coming at roughly the same time, I can use the experience of one to remind myself that in the end, everything will work out. And soon I will be posting how bored I am of MoP and when is that next expansion supposed to be out?

Where is Zarigar?

Posted in Blogging with tags on August 3, 2012 by zarigar

Whoops. I forgot to get my hall pass approved. Oh well.

Summertime means it’s time to watch my trashy reality show, Big Brother. And every four years comes all the patriotic pride of the Olympics. I know I’ve mentioned both before but I’m too lazy to go searching for those old posts. Both at one time means I don’t even bother to do my jewelcrafting daily.

So I am watching TV and reading reports online and wondering why I have such a craving for Coca-Cola and McDonald’s. And trying to figure out which athletes are really underaged and which ones are on the juice.

Badminton conspiracies? Oh, you silly Asians. What won’t you do for a gold medal?

Then, for the next two weeks, I have to travel out of town for work. (Which means I can’t watch obscure Olympic events in the daytime next week! Bitches!) So I will have even less time to be on.

Enjoy your Zarigar-free time!
