New patch, new you

Posted in WoD with tags , , , , , on October 20, 2014 by zarigar

All right, I was a couple of days late to get to the new patch. I hate, hate, hate that last patch before a new xpac that breaks everything and changes everything that I had grown used to. But since I hadn’t been playing as much lately, I was hoping this one wouldn’t annoy me as much.

But really I had to see what was going on with the new looks.

OMG. I love, love, love how the trolls came out. Here is the new Zarigar:

It’s hard to see in a static picture but I love his ears. They move slightly now as he breathes and it sounds kind of cheesy but it looks great. Even his mohawk seems to look better!

Older pic for reference:

Then, when I went over to Alliance, I saw that some of them weren’t quite so lucky. This was Khiaren previously:

This is an older pic. She was cute and proportioned ok, I thought. Then I got a look at new Khiaren:

Holy hell, what is this? Ugh she looks like she lost a ton of weight unhealthily and her head is now too tiny for her body. Yes, some of it is the armor she’s wearing but it’s like she lost some of her spark.

I immediately ran her to the barber shop to see if I could fix this monstrosity. Hilariously, I noticed that she could go from earring to no earrings for the small price of 12 gold. Yes, she could pay the barber for the privilege of removing her earrings.

I then changed hairstyles and facial features but couldn’t really find one that looked good. I think one of the issues is that dwarves don’t have a lot of full hairstyle options to compensate for their smaller heads. A lot of the hair was very short and close to the head.

This was what I left her looking like for now:

It’s not exactly where I want her to be, but I’ll keep playing around with options. (Yes, I will drop all of my gold into the barber shops!) It looks a little better in-game than it does on the loading screen and, of course, I only see her from the back of the head when I’m playing.

Maybe soon I’ll venture into actual content.

Trolls just want to have fun

Finally, it’s all about Zarigar. The evening started with him collecting Elder coins and ended with a first-time kill of the endgame boss. (Non-LFR!)

So let’s start with the part you’re most dying to hear about. I was in Twilight Highlands, flying to the elder in the middle of the dwarf ruins… Oh, you don’t care about that…

Fine, into the raid. It was already going to be a good night because the raid make-up was 4 belfs, 3 goblins, and 3 trolls. 3!!! Trolls!!! This is a long way from the times when I was the sole troll representative. Back when a 10-man had no fewer than 7 belfs in it.

It was a bit disappointing that they all didn’t have the giant mohawks and Adoe didn’t even know at first what kind of hairstyle he had under his helm. It obviously wan’t a full mohawk, no way would that gloriousness be covered by a tacky helm. The higher the hair, the closer to God!

Most of the run was pretty smooth. Arv brought in his little goblin warrior to tank (The Tank!) and we learned what happens when you pull with rockets. (It doesn’t go so well.)

On Hagara, everyone looked to the trolls to see who would be the one to die during frost phase. Stunnah edged out Zarigar on the prediction of whose corpse everyone would be trampling on. But, haha, bitches…no one died. Take your haterade elsewhere.

Spine was noteworthy for Vanicus getting a worm in her hole. It’s exactly as dirty as it sounds.

I don’t like the Deathwing fight. I hate it on LFR, too. I hate moving and I hate switching targets and I hate trying to figure out if I’m standing in a bad spot that’s going to get someone killed and I hate leaping across platforms ever since I heard about people glitching and falling to their death.

So after a couple of attempts when some people brought up calling it there and trying again the next day, I didn’t care. I think I even cursed when Sorak said give it one more try. In Shadow Rising “one more try” actually means “ok, now it clicks and he dies”. And then, oh hai, I haz a new achievement.

Yes, it was a little bit anti-climactic because I’ve seen Deathwing die several times in LFR. But it was still exciting to get a “real” kill in, even if it was on “my alt”. Jendora has done everything else in Cata, so having it be Zarigar get this first was a nice bit of the circle coming back around.

Oh yes, and I also got Elders of Cataclysm, so it was a successful evening all around.

Goodbye elder spam

Goodbye annoying holiday that lasted like 3 months and I didn’t even finish because I got so bored traipsing all over the world to collect coins from elders scattered in the remotest corners of the zones. (Run-on sentence, much?) My OCD (or CDO) for completing the meta came up against my ADD (and general laziness) and lost out.

Take your stupid coins and your stupid light balls and your stupid firecracker nonsense and just go away.

I did make a last ditch effort the other night to at least finish up all the death runs into alliance cities and grab all those elder coins, so that’s one less thing to do next year.

Next up is Noblegarden but I’ve done everything for that meta already. I think I just need one of those “find some clothes in an egg” luck achievements left. After that is Crotchfruit Week–errr, I mean Children’s Week–and I think I’ve done most of those already.

But I’m not predicting a holiday drake until around 2012 at this rate.

Or something like that…

Despite the 4-hour long roleplay that starts the instance off, CoS is one that I like a lot. Possible 5 badges if you need them. And the timer aspect gives you an excuse to gogogo. There’s a certain joy to be had in getting a group through to the end and someone getting the bronze drake.

“A gift for you, mon.’

What’s not so cool about CoS?

For starters, this:

My hair! My glorious hair!

If I absolutely had to, I can tolerate this disgusting human form. Eww, look how he’s standing straight up. It’s horrible.

But my mohawk. My precious is gone….and replaced by a flat top look that went out in the 80’s. *sob* It’s unnatural. As soon as I load into CoS I scramble to my settings to show helm.

I needz my mohawk. All trolls should sport one. I almost cried when a guildie calmly mentioned that his troll does not have one. (I won’t name any names–because that would be tacky–but his name rhymes with Sèx.)

The rest of you trolls, all 7 of you on the server, I expect to see some sexy mohawkness when I pass you by.

At de barbershop, mon

To the person who found my site using the search: “wow where do i get a mohawk for a troll”

Assuming this was a serious search, I’m devastated that one wouldn’t notice the mohawk when first creating their troll and wouldn’t then immediately select it as the only viable hairstyle choice!

And now, because I have nothing else to add to that, some filler:
